Closing the Conversation

If you aren’t interested in getting a date with this person it doesn’t really matter how you close a conversation past common courtesy – does it?

Even if you’ve had one of the worst conversations of your life. They’ve insulted you. They’ve ignored you. Whatever. Resist the temptation to go for revenge. OK, so I’m exaggerating here. But the point is, always leave a conversation as politely as you can.

It just might be, on a speed date in particular, you find you do want to date their friend who is further round the room. If you end up making a bad impression on your current date you can guarantee the friend you want to date will get to hear about it later on.

More to the point is how to close a conversation with someone you do want a match with. Short of reaching over and helping them to write down your number, what can you do?

The answer is to leave them in no doubt that you enjoyed your time together and that you’d like to do it again. This is much easier to do than most people make it. You can probably generate a lot more ways of doing this than I can write down here. The important thing is to make sure you;

  • say it with sincerity,
  • communicate how you’ve enjoyed talking with them,
  • let them know you’d like to meet them again.

So you might say something like,

‘It’s been fun talking with you. You’ve got a wicked sense of humour. Hope to see you soon.’

And although we’re not talking body language here, make sure you leave them with a smile and a look that lingers on their eyes slightly longer than normal.

So you can construct your own conversation closers. Just make sure you communicate the enjoyment you had in a sincere manner and that you’d like to do it again some time.

So there we are. Virtually at the end of the book on dating conversation. And that’s it isn’t it?

Well it would be if you wanted to miss out on one of the easiest ways to make what you say much more impactful…how to say what you say.

Couples Therapy - when saving your relationship is a must

Michael literally saved my marriage.

My marriage was in a real state. My sex life was a mess and we seemed to spend most of our lives being angry at each other. I was contemplating leaving the relationship even though I knew that would be excruciatingly painful.

On the course, working with Michael, I learnt what I needed from my relationship to make it work.
